Lillooet RCMP April 26 to May 9 2023, Calls for service: 125

Assault

On April 27 at 4am a man report he was beaten up by 3 unknown people. The man reported the incident began as the 3 people believed that he had offered money for sex. The victim was presenting with large amounts of swelling to his face. There were no witnesses and the out-of-town victim was unable to identify any of the suspects. The victim also refused to provide a statement to police and wished to simply return to his home away from Lillooet.

Suspicious circumstance

On April 27 at 3:30 a woman reported seeing a man at the skate park brandish a knife and yelling at kids. Police attended immediately however all parties were gone on arrival. Two women at the park stated they did see a man yelling at some kids however there was no knife. Police located the suspect nearby who stated the kids were teasing him, so he yelled at them but denied having a knife. No knife was located.

On April 27 at 11pm a woman reported two people cutting branches with a machete and trying to break into the Cookhouse restaurant. Police attended and located a male and female known to police. The man stated he was paid by the Cookhouse to cut back the brush. Police informed the man that 11pm was not an appropriate time to be waving a machete around and doing yard work with an apartment building nearby. The man and woman were cooperative in leaving and agreed to return at a better time.

On May 1 at 9:30am a woman reported that someone had drained her fuel tank of the personal vehicle while parked on Murray St. Police contacted the woman who stated she had since realized her vehicle had a leaky fuel line that needed replacement.

Road check

On April 28 at 9pm Lillooet RCMP and Stl’atl’imx police conducted a road check on Main St and 7th Ave. Approximately 50 vehicles were checked. Two violation tickets were issued, and one impaired driver was taken off the road.

On May 2 at 9pm Lillooet RCMP and Stl’atl’imx police conducted a road check on Hwy 99 near Lightfoot Chevron. Approximately 10 vehicles were checked. No violations observed. Police moved the road check to the west side of the Camels bright. 20 vehicles were checked with one violation ticket issued. No impaired drivers observed.

Impaired driving

On April 28 at 9pm a white SUV was observing turning around right in front of a police road check. Police caught up to the vehicle and engaged in a traffic stop. A breath demand was given to the 63-year-old female driver, who blew a FAIL. The driver was given the opportunity to provide a second sample, and blew a second FAIL. The woman’s vehicle was impounded for 30 days, and she was prohibited from driving for a minimum 90 days.

Collision

On May 7 at 2:20am Lillooet RCMP were advised of a single vehicle collision with the vehicle on fire and people heard screaming outside off of Lillooet Pioneer Road 40. Bridge River Fire department was already on scene, EHS was also requested. Police arrived and observed pickup truck still on fire. The vehicle had 5 occupants, all of which were transported to local hospital for further care. It was later determined the vehicle had driven off a 20m cliff, gone airborne approximately 10m before landing and rolling to a stop and catching fire. The file remains under further investigation.

Possession of stolen property

On April 28 at 11pm police engaged in a traffic stop with a stolen green pickup truck out of Kamloops, on Main St. The truck pulled over and the 28-year-old male driver was arrested for possession of stolen property. The man was given a future court date with conditions to speak to the allegations.

On May 1 a local business owner reported that a customer’s truck parked outside his business overnight had a window smashed. Police attended and also observed surveillance footage which showed two men around the truck at 4am break the window using a blow torch. The customer advised police that a harness was stolen from the truck and a few small tools. While there were no immediate suspects, police attended a local residence known to police. While there a man known to police arrived and was observed wearing a harness that matched the description provided by the customer. The man was arrested for possession of stolen property. The man was later released with a future court date and conditions.

Theft

On May 7 a woman reported her $50 000 travel trailer stolen. There were no witnesses, and no immediate video surveillance where the trailer was stolen from. On May 16 the trailer was recovered approximately 25 minutes outside of Lillooet.
